Salary Range: $3,938 - $5,589/Monthly

Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday – Thursday, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Occasional evening, or weekend, work may be required. Scheduled work hours may be temporarily adjusted to meet special operational needs of the University and unit; temporary appointment expires on or before one-year, may be extended, may become permanent; non-exempt classification.

Essential Job Functions: Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Graduate and International Admissions, the Graduate/International Evaluator is responsible for determining the admission eligibility, transfer credit, and residency status for domestic and international undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate applicants. The incumbent may also serve as a department liaison with other campus offices. Considerable public contact is involved, including phone and email inquiries, as well as in-person conversations. The incumbent will: determine academic eligibility for domestic and international undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate applicants, including those with foreign coursework; determine course equivalencies, transfer credit, grading scale equivalencies, and acceptability or recognition of domestic and foreign coursework and degrees; utilize and adhere to established CSU and university policies and procedures; contact other institutions as necessary to clarify specific graduate and international admission evaluation questions and practices; review admission application, residence review forms, non-resident tuition exceptions, and supporting documentation to determine student residency statuses; assist in the reconciliation and revising of immigration and biographical data; work closely with the CSU Chancellor’s Office (CO) to ensure compliance with system-wide policies and procedures; compile appeal documentation for CO requests; interpret and apply a variety of policies and procedures referencing the University catalog, class schedule, CSU admission handbook, CA Education Codes, and the Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for determination of information release; advise applicants and resolve sensitive problems relating to admission eligibility, course equivalencies, transfer credits, acceptability or recognition of foreign degrees with students, faculty, staff and relatives of applicants; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers, staff, faculty, administrators, and campus community.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to two years of full-time academic records evaluation experience with the full scope of responsibility for making decisions regarding admission eligibility, articulation, and transfer credit. Completion of a formal training program in academic records may substitute for one year of the required experience. PC proficiency - knowledge of software packages such as Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Cal State Apply, CMS PeopleSoft, and Hyland Imaging Systems. Must be familiar with and knowledgeable of the various academic record formats from domestic and international institutions of secondary and higher education, and possess the ability to interpret, authenticate and compare academic records. The incumbent must demonstrate effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, and possess strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to: obtain a thorough understanding of admission policies and regulations; convey complex admissions policies and procedures, and clearly communicate them verbally and in writing to others; be thorough, consistent and accurate in the interpretation of records against criteria; comprehend and interpret complex regulations or requirements, and apply them in the valuation process; confront problems analytically and logically and exercise mature judgment in making decisions; conduct research and analysis in the evaluation of transcripts and make independent decisions about complex student situations; develop effective work procedures; and train others. Demonstrated interest and ability in working in a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships and train others.
